We went to the Dossin musuem and first went to the Gothic room which was on a boat and we looked at the boat which was part the Edmund Fitzgerald and the anchor from it was outside. We looked in the actual captains bridge and we got to flip a lot of switches which was fun.We also looked at a hydroplane and lots of models of boats. There was a stained glass window from the 1800's showing LaSalle and how he led the French throough Michigan into the rest of the US .We all got to look through a periscope from a submarine .
We learned that Detroit became a big industrial center was because the waterways were used to ship iron ore from the upper peninsula. The first cars had boat motors because a lot of the industry before cars was boat related. The engines they used in the hydroplane were also used in P51 fighters during world war II.
