Carbon Emission Reduction

We wanted to reduce the amount of carbon emissions so we made a short film to educate people about how they can how they can help in really easy ways. By spending just five minutes every day you can have a really positive impact on the air quality in our watershed.

Here are some easy things you can do in five minutes to help protect the River Rouge Watershed

Ø Turn down the heat while you're sleeping at night or away during the day, and keep temperatures moderate at all times.
Setting your thermostat just 2 degrees lower in winter and higher in summer could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

Ø Replace an incandescent bulb with a CFL light bulb If every U.S. family replaced one regular light bulb with a CFL, it would eliminate 90 billion pounds of greenhouse gases, the same as taking 7.5 million cars off the road.

Ø Turn off electronic devices when not in use. Simply turning off your TV, VCR, computer and other electronic devices can save each household thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

Ø If we successfully reduced the number of catalogs produced in this country by 30% we would: Stop Those Unwanted Catalogs by calling to request that your name be removed from their mailing list

Ø Check your tires. Properly inflated tires mean good gas mileage. For each gallon of gas saved, 20 pounds of carbon dioxide are also never produced.

Ø Wash your clothes in warm or cold water to reduce your use of hot water and the energy required to produce it. That change alone can save at least 500 pounds of carbon dioxide annually in most households.

Ø Drive less. Walk, bike, carpool, or use public transport. Because each Mile you do not drive prevents one pound of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere

Here is our global climate change video that we entered a contest. We got second place in the contest but more importantly we educated lots of people because this video was shown at a movie festival in Ann Arbor, MI
